M.Ed, MSW intern
Leslie Keenaghan is a social work intern with Hawk & hummingbird. She is studying with the University of New England to become a licensed clinical social worker. Before entering the mental health field, Leslie worked as an educator in the public school systems for nearly 18 years and holds a Master’s in Education. She has extensive experience working with children and teens of varying abilities, and worked tirelessly to incorporate social emotional learning into her daily instruction. She values this type of education and believes strongly that all children can develop and grow as mindful and healthy individuals when given the tools to achieve this goal. In addition, Leslie has a genuine interest in facilitating awareness around the need for organization and executive functioning in teens and young adults. Leslie’s personal experience with Anxiety Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), along with her years of teaching children struggling with emotional well being has motivated her to pursue a career in the mental health profession. Leslie values the healing process and is passionate about creating meaningful, connected relationships with her clients. She sees this connection within a safe environment as an important part of the restorative process. Leslie believes in using a mindfulness approach to therapy. She understands that each individual’s mind, body and spirit can guide them on a journey to discovering a connection to their authentic and true self. Leslie will utilize a strengths based perspective alongside humanistic therapies, such as Gestalt and Narrative therapy, to help clients identify their own thoughts and feelings while recognizing their value and ownership of their lives. She knows that this type of therapeutic relationship will lead to understanding, growth and rehabilitation for her clients.
